FHI 360 congratulates UNFPA's new Executive Director

FHI 360 extends its warmest congratulations to Dr. Natalia Kanem, who has been appointed Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).“We wish Dr. Kanem great success in this remarkably important role,” said Dr. Timothy Mastro, Chief Science Officer at FHI 360. “FHI 360 supports UNFPA’s vision of making pregnancy and childbirth safer and realizing the full potential of young people. We had a close partnership with Dr. Kanem’s predecessor, the late Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin, and look forward to developing a similarly strong collaboration with Dr. Kanem.”
Dr. Kanem, a Panamanian medical doctor, will be the Fund’s fifth Executive Director. Her appointment is for four years. She has stated that her agenda as Executive Director includes ending preventable maternal deaths, preventing unintended pregnancies and meeting the demand for family planning, and ending gender-based violence.
